Malaysia📍272 Steps Batu Caves

Lord Murugan

When we arrived in Kuala Lumpur (a city in Malaysia), first question of my travel buddy Shyne was “Inday, what’s our first destination?” and I responded, “Batu Caves”.

What is Batu Caves?

Properly located in Selangor Malaysia is the huge Hindu Temple outside Kuala Lumpur famously named as Batu Caves. It is the most important Hindu temple outside India. And it said to be dedicated to Hindus Lord Murugan. The mentioned Lord is the big statue outside the cave that cost approximately to 24 million rupees and made from 300 liters of gold paint.

How to get there?

Aside from KL’s Twin Tower, we journeyed to Malaysia from Singapore to witness this enchanting Batu Caves, so how we got there? There are many options to reach Batu Caves and here are the lists:

By Car or Taxi

I, Shyne and Love the trio for this adventure took a taxi from KL Sentral Train Station. It is the easiest mode of transportation came to our heads because we were first timer in KL. The cave is accessible by taxi or a car because it is just situated beside the main highway of MRR2 in Batu caves area.

By Train

We never thought that from KL Sentral itself we can commute there going to Batu Caves, lazy kids took the taxi instead lol! And Yes! KTM Komuter train could service you to reach the Caves.

By Bus

A bus could also take you to caves from KL Sentral, it is the other way but I guess much better to travel via train to avoid traffics.

Outside Batu Caves

The journey was a kind of eye opener to us how devoted Hindus to their gods. There were many people in the caves. Most of them are tourist like us and the others are devotees came from other part of the globe.

There are many birds outside the cave and there I was enjoying them. Also, look at the people at my back they are Muslims which I told you before on my other blog (here) that are many in Malaysia. They also were enjoying those lovely birds!

Also found outside the corners of Batu Caves are different stores. Food courts and souvenir shops are scattered. Gezz! There was a photo bomber at my back! Lol

Inside the Cave

There are a total of 272 steps upon reaching the mouth of the main cave and inside there are several caves in different forms strewn.

Above the knee garment and sleeveless shirts are not allowed inside so better take a decent look! Wear clothes that are not showy. There is cloth for rent outside and you can have it for 2 RM if i remember it correctly.

Even me, I have to cover my legs with cloth. Lucky I have a “Sarong” with me which means I didn’t have to rent a cloth.

On the left portion, facing the cave there found the Dark Cave. If you’re afraid with monkeys, beware because there are really many of them even at the mouth of the cave especially at the Dark Cave. They seem not friendly!

And oh, there is also a falls at the right portion approaching to the mouth of Batu Caves. It adds enchanting beauty!

Inside, several colorful Hindu gods were being displayed. The Batu Caves temple has three main caves and the rest are the smaller ones.

Another set of steps are also found at the main complex of the cave. And upstairs there are Hindus doing ceremonies and rituals. There are also few smaller caves at the area with Hindu statues.

💕💗💕

This impressive Batu Caves, that we thought just a huge limestone mountain outside the City of Kuala Lumpur is a must see destination when visiting Malaysia. Our visit in this well-known cave gave us the historical background or story of what Malaysia really is. Our legs got tested upon climbing its 272 steps but the whole experienced was great and a best diary to share.
